BKAA Loft and Office

BKAA Loft and Office

This is a redesign of a loft originally converted to live-and-work space in 1974 inside the 1873 Landmark building by architect Griffith Thomas in SoHo, NYC.

The current interiors articulate the day and night activities of an architect’s professional workspace and living quarters. To unify the 1873 cast iron exterior façade with the interior shell of the loft, original interior woodwork on the perimeter wall was restored as well as the tin ceiling. Cast iron Corinthian columns were stripped to reveal their precise cast iron surfaces after the removal of many layers of paint. New modern living and working areas within the space enhance the elegant proportions and the industrial character of the space.
